Join me for a fun-filled and exciting photographic adventure to Caddo Lake in Northeast Texas and Northwest Louisiana. This is a great time to catch fall color in the cypress groves, and we will have time to explore the area and make memorable images.

Due to last minute opportunities for a group rental property, the schedule has changed. You get a free day!! Because the lodging changed, the previously arranged charter falls just before, so one of those days is included in the actual workshop, and the day before at your pleasure as well.

We will meet in Marshall, TX on the evening of the 5th for dinner if you wish to take advantage of the extra opportunities. If you are in the area early then a trip to the State Park is possible. We will photograph from a pontoon boat on the morning of the 6th and 7th. The morning of the 6th is not part of the formal workshop. The only fee for that is cost share for the charter. The morning of the 7th is part of the workshop, but it is a free day above the usual 5 day schedule. Boat charter is not included in the cost of the workshop. There have been changes to the itinerary because a property became available for the 9 -12 with checkout morning of the 13th. It gives back door access to an area not easily accessed otherwise.

Yes, we will photograph from kayak for several sessions. Fret not. If you have never been in a flat-water fishing kayak they are not the tippy white water boats you may have seen or been in. On the 2023 workshop, only one person was under 60 and they all managed well with less than 30 minutes of coaching. You can do it too. To be sure there are a few things to know and that will be covered well before the trip as well as on-site so that you are prepared for the experience.

Caddo Lake State Park has a marvelous fishing-type pier extending into the Mill Pond and has room for many photographers. There are numerous compositions from the pier in several lighting conditions. This is an opportunity to use your tripod on this trip. We will go there the morning of the 4th and return as an option at any time the group chooses.

Please note: most of your images will be made hand-held.

Fear not, modern image stabilization and high ISO sensor performance work perfectly for this application.

Lodging options for the first 3 nights include hotels in Jefferson or Marshall, Texas and I will book a group of rooms which you can take over as it gets closer.

Morning comes early, so there will not be much activity after dinner. Morning light is best here, with good chances of mist and fog on several days of the trip. The afternoon light is more static, though good skies are always possible. Plan on a morning session ending in time for breakfast. You will need sleep so a good nap after breakfast may suit you. There will be time for image critiques and Photoshop sessions that ordinarily would not happen during a full-on dawn ‘til dark field workshop.

Getting There:

By air: 1) Fly to Shreveport, LA rent a car and drive less than one hour to your lodging of choice. 2) Fly to Dallas which has much better air connections at the expense of a longer, 2 ½ hour drive. DFW flights are often less expensive. Alternatively, drive there, bringing your kayak if you have one.

Expenses:

Approximately $50/day for kayak rental.

Approximatley $80 / per person for the morning charter excursions.

Tuition for the 6 days is set at $1250.00 with a $100 discount offered to all alumni from any of my workshops.

Deposit of $250.00 due by June 1st with balance due 30 days out.

Lodging is not included. I will invoice separately on the website for the house and you will pick up your own hotel room.

Covid vaccination required for attendance.

Antigen testing with a home kit requested no more than 24 hours prior.
